Conference on functioning and development of education

The Donetsk RSA chairman Volodymyr LOGVYNENKO took part in the conference on functioning and development of education under the chairmanship of the President of Ukraine Viktor YUSHCHENKO.
The main theme of the conference was effectiveness increasing on measures directed to education development in Ukraine and creating of conditions for citizens to have access to qualitative education.
Conference participants viewed some acute questions on educational sphere. Among them are the following: increasing of attraction children to preschool education and renewing of corresponding establishments in villages; some steps towards providing educational establishments with teachers, increasing of their professional preparedness and social protection; providing with books for general establishments, particularly for schools with teaching languages of national minorities.
To the Donetsk region educational system belong 2.5 thousands of educational establishments of all forms of property, level and types of accreditation, where study 700 thousands of alumni, pupils and students; work almost 100 thousands workers of educational establishments, out of whom 70 thousands and teachers and scientists.
In the region are confirmed and in realization process the following programs:
- comprehensive Program “Education of the Donetsk region for 2007-2011 years”;
- purpose program of state language development;
- establishment of informational-communicative technologies and distance education;
- measures for support of gifted and talented youth;
- program of social educational protection process and providing conditions for all children and adults with equal access to qualitative education.

Realization of these measures gave some positive results during last 2 years. Thus, increased attraction of children to preschool education to 5%. For the previous year almost to 30% increased the number of educational computer complexes, computerization of educational establishments in the region – to 95% (in 2006 – 62%), and in villages – till 100%. The number of schools with Internet access was increased 3.5 times more. Material-technical supply of educational process was also improved.

Of a great importance is equal access of every child to qualitative education, computerization and informing of educational process, establishment of new innovation technologies, creating of one educational space.

Under permanent control and increased attention in the region is the improvement of welfare and health of children-orphans and children, deprived of parental care, whose lives are always connected with staying in boarding schools.

There exist also problematic questions, solution of which requires the state interference. First of all, it is a necessity to improve existing mechanism of the state purchases and problem of saving schools in villages and small mine villages, as existing mechanism of forming education budget does not allow the existing of schools with small number of pupils. Only in previous year because of this 10 schools were closed in the Donetsk region.
