Regional Characteristics Traits

Donetsk region occupies the area of 26,5 thsnd sq.km, it covers 4,4% of the state territory. The population of  more than 4,5 mln people,  it’s the most populated region in Ukraine. Donbass is also the most international; representatives of 130 nationalities inhabit the region. Representatives of Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist and other religious denominations act in the region. There are 52 big and small towns and 18 lands.

 

The region provides more than 20% of Ukrainian industrial production. Donetsk region possesses 1/6 (16%) major industrial production assets of Ukraine. The region of Donetsk  steadily ranked second in terms of investment in fixed capital.

The region cooperates with 160 countries of the world. Donetsk region is a member of the Association of European regions. Donetsk, the heart of the region, with population of more than 1 mln. people. UNESCO officially recognized   Donetsk as City of Million Roses, one of the greenest cities among the other industrial centers of the world.
