Geographical Location

Donetsk region in many ways has favorable location on the map. The region is situated in European part of Eurasian continent: at the crossroads of international transport routes from West to East and from North to South.

The region is in the south-west part of Ukraine. The length from North to South – 240 km, from East to West – 170 km. Donbass is contiguous with Dniepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye, Kharkov and Lugansk regions. On the west part - with Rostov region of Russian Federation. The southern boundary is washed by the Sea of Azov that opens the sea transport connections to other countries.

Donetsk region is the most populated region in Ukraine, here live 4,46 mln. people, 130 nationalities, i.e. 10 % of all Ukrainian population. The population density is 168 people per 1 sq km, 90,5% urban population. 

The severe continental climate of the region is characterizes by hot and dry summer and rather cold winter with a little snow.

Donetsk region is attractive in touristic sphere nevertheless the high urbanization, the highest industrial level (there are more than 2,000 largest enterprises in Ukraine, Eastern Europe and the world) thanks to territories with original flora and fauna.
