The region has the developed transport network.

The Donetsk railway is one of the largest in Ukraine. It carries out one third of the total amount of freight traffic on the Ukrainian railway and 15 % of the amount of public transportations. It serves the population, the industrial and economic complex of Donetsk, Lugansk, partially - Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye and Kharkov regions. Donetsk has a railway communication with the big junctions of Ukraine and Russia, including Kiev, Lvov, Odessa, Kharkov, Simferopol, Moscow, St.-Petersburg and other cities. 

 

In the South the railway has the outlet to the Sea of Azov through Mariupol sea trading port.

 

Mariupol Sea Trading Port is the leading port on the Sea of Azov.  Now Mariupol port is one of leading ports in Ukraine on techniacal level, quality of hydroengineering constructions, freight quantity, service and many other indicators concerning the sea industry. Mariupol port is included into the group of the most advanced ports of Europe on the loading level   per each square metre of the berthing. Capacity of the port allows working over more than 15 million tons of cargoes per year.

 

The port is the important import-export centre of region. It provides full complex of custom services and high quality of communication systems. The port has 17 moorings which let to take vessels in length of 240 m and boarding of 8 m.
The port is connected with railway and automobile roads, air and river communication to all the countries.

 

Two airports in the cities of Donetsk and Mariupol with the international status offer full spectrum of custom services. There is the passenger and transport airfield in Kramatorsk.

 

Donetsk International Airport is in the finishing stage of the absolute reconstruction though it leads its history since 1933. The new four-staged building of the airport complex, divided into two functional zones (arrival and departure zones)   with the area of 27 thsnd m2. can serve 1,000 passengers per hour. Its construction will provide comfortable service to 5 million passengers per year.

 

New runway of Donetsk International Airport makes possible to become a second reserve airport in Ukraine and takes all aircrafts without limitation of their maximum take off weight and weather conditions.

 

Mariupol International Airport with the capacity of 200 passengers per hour serves domestic, international and charter flights. Geography covers the CIS countries, Europe and Middle East.

 

The region has developed road network with other regions of Ukraine and South of Russia. The roads of the region are of high quality. Highways and cities roads are equipped with modern petrol stations offering full range of services. Almost all world car manufacturers have their own service stations in the Donetsk region.
